Friends of Scouting

The annual Family Friends of Scouting Campaign is an opportunity to educate the families of Scouts about the program and financial needs of the council.  As in any organization, in order to provide the best program possible there has to be a support structure. The Orange County Council provides that structure. The Council goals are to provide every available young person the opportunity to participate in Scouting and receive a quality program that fullfils the Aims and Mission Statement of the Boy Scouts of America.

The most effective Family Friends of Scouting Campaign includes a 5-10 minute presentation at a Scout Meeting. Usually the Blue and Gold Banquet for Cub Scouts, Court of Honor for Boy Scouts and Parent Nights for Venturers. They are scheduled based on the Units availability and event schedule. Each unit should have a designated Friends of Scouting Coordinator to help schedule and provide support for the campaign. This support can include introducing the presenter, distributing materials before and during the presentation, and follow up after the presentation.

Here are five easy steps to help you in reaching your Friends of Scouting goals:

  1. Schedule a meeting with your Fund Development Executive
    • This meeting is to discuss past FOS achievements and set a new, reasonable goal
    • Use the UNIT FINANCE WORKSHEET to help with your goal setting
  2. Recruit a Unit Finance Coordinator
  3. Familiarize yourself with the many benefits your unit recieves (or utilizes) from Orange County Council
  4. Schedule a Friends of Scouting Presentation
    • Encourage all families to attend the presentation
    • Send marketing materials to families of the unit
